We had the corporate interiors team from Ziegler Cooper in the office today for a presentation. I asked the question, “What are the dominant trends they are seeing in office design today?” The consensus opinion from the Ziegler Cooper workplace team was designing the office around enhancing collaboration and increased efficiency.
Office Design Trends:
- Increased Efficiency to Lower Costs: The cost of real estate continues to climb and companies are continuing to look at ways to do more with less.
- Standardization of space allocations: Companies are standardizing their space allocations and they are seeing space allocations with less variance based on rank to offer more flexibility with expansion.
- More open environment with emphasis on collaboration: Many companies with the exception of the oil and gas industry are moving towards more open environments. The walls are coming down and more smaller meeting and training rooms with the latest digital technology are being incorporated into the floor plan.
- Space Design around Teams: Rather than designing space around department and function, space layouts are situated around teams and projects.
