This Week in the Economy

U.S. stocks posted solid gains on Friday securing a 5-day winning streak for the first time in more than two months. Locally, Houston’s unemployment rate dropped to 8.6 percent in August as 3,200 nonfarm jobs were gained, according to data released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission.

This week, the BEA posted data on metropolitan GDP, for 2010. Here’s a look at the change in GDP for that year and the change in the unemployment rate for large U.S. MSA’s.
